Otterpops vs. Fla-Vor-Ice
Over the last few summers, one snack has triumphed over all as my fave. The infamous Otter-Pop.
In the market, I have seen a competitor: Fla-Vor-Ice. I wondered...which was better?
Check out this website to find out and make sure to read to the end for a great punchline.

What my blog has become; Dark circles under the eyes: What causes them? - MayoClinic.com
'Guess it is fitting with the subheading of this page.
Never one to disappoint, I noticed in the mirror dark circles under my eyes. Rather than look up the wives tale explanation with its home remedy of vegetables or peanut butter (you get the idea), I searched for a real explanation. Here is what I found.

Quiz candidates on science
Now, I do not claim to be the all-knowing science guru. I do not claim to have a complete grasp on all of the basic scientific concepts (I blame public school and my lack of drive in high school), but I have been playing catchup. I regularly read up on science and the latest discoveries (thank God for Viigo and RSS feeds). However, I am not running for President of the United States (yet).
My point: I am pretty sure that the presidential candidates lack the scientific knowledge to have such a debate. My guess is that they'll do what candidates do in any political debate: cater to the popular voice of the times. What do you think? Do the candidates have the scientific knowledge to govern this nation in a scientifically positive way?

How to turn flat feet into arched feet
"We've been contending for a massive breakthrough of the power of God here at IHOP-KC for decades. At different times we've seen a few healings. This past week I personally witnessed one creative miracle and one healing right in front of my eyes! One young man has had pain in his feet b/c he was born with flat feet. On Tuesday morning during our One Thing Internship Chapel he said he felt heat on the bottom of his feet. He took his shoes off and BAM!!!! He had two arched feet! I saw them with my own eyes. Not just a little either I'm talking two normal well-arched feet. He's 20 years old that's 20 years of flat feet and in a second God arched his feet. That was the creative miracle. The next young man had recently dislocated his shoulder playing volleyball. We asked Noah (the guy who just had his feet arched) to pray for this shoulder. He did along with others and the guy felt the presence of God come on him. He felt that his shoulder was healed. He took off his sling and had full range of motion with no pain! Praise God! Thank you Jesus. May a healing revival sweep across this land! If your sick in your body take a second right now and ask the Lord Jesus to heal that particular part of your body. He's willing and able to heal us. Be healed.Wes"

I have an idea: Why don't they predict lower prices so that prices will be lower?
I love the idea that people are buying oil at higher prices on the fear that prices will be higher.

Compare how these stories are framed...
AP
"NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil futures surged to a new record over $120 a barrel Monday as supply threats emerged overseas and the dollar weakened against the euro. Retail gas prices, meanwhile, fell more than a cent over the weekend, offering further evidence that prices may have peaked for the year...."

AND now... CNN
"Americans are already paying through the nose for gasoline, and they think it's only going to get worse."

What makes a nerd anyhow?
Now, of course this is all in jest and good humor, but I want to continue this line of thought for fun's sake.
Perhaps what is happening is that everyone is discovering their inner nerd like Revenge of the Nerds (though less campy). Or perhaps there are a few different kinds of nerds. What we really need is a solid definition of what defines a geek and a nerd.
Tell me how I fit in:
I like Star Trek, enough to be entertained by ship layouts and schematics online.
I like computers, even repairing them when I don't have to. I stay up to date with many trends and technologies. I am addicted to my blackberry's rss reader. However, I abhor working with Linux.
I have seen most episodes of Stargate, enough to quote while I am watching it. The same goes for BTTF.
I think learning trivia is fun. Stuff like what makes paint white or speculating on wormholes.
Yknow, on second thought@l it isn't that people are posing as geeks or nerds, it is that the very idea, the terms, have lost their meaning. It is simply a cultural revolution. The words nerd or geek used to apply to those involved in the niche, but now we have come to live in a society where everyone is in a niche.
Whether it is anime or startrek, glasses or contacts, it simply has ceased to matter.
In the end, the words nerd and geek have ceased to be, like it or not.

Being a nerd
We nerds now have a large portion of the wealth in the world, occupying many seats of political and economic power.
We control the computer systems that the world uses for everyday activity. Computer systems that once got kids beat up on the playground.
Who does the swirly now?
Fortunately, I wasn't around during those dark times. Still, as I watch and hear about the news talking about how being a geeky nerd is now trendy, I can't help but ask, "Who the heck are they talking to?"
I doubt that wearing a Star Trek Voyager t shirt will give me a positive glance from anyone but my nerd brethren.
Still, when shows like Lost and Heroes (which I don't like for other reasons) gain so much popular fair, I once again must ask Who are those nerds?
Not me, that's who. Those nerds dress and talk like the rest. Sell outs.
Strong words? Yup, but hey, back in the day that's what we (they) had.
